Day 7: Submission time
Day 7: Last Day
On the last 24 hours, my sound artist buddy, dnebesh, has given me some music and some sound effects. He was pretty busy because of college, but I was really satisfied by his works. I implemented all of them according to what I want and finally the game is finished. Now, I give a small test to my friend and ask what his feedback was. He mentioned that the flashlight was a bit too low at the start, so I decided to increase the size a little bit.
Then, it is time to upload the game to the page. In Construct, you can export the game to HTML5 and nw.JS. I was wondering if I should export only to HTML5 like all of my games or add a downloadable version for the game so players can play it immediately on their PC or without opening my page again. And so, I decided to export both versions. I uploaded the game, submitted the game to the game jam, filled in several files, and finally it is done.
Although the game is released and finished developed, I couldn't shake the feelings of these thoughts:
- More achievements, therefore players can just continue playing more and more to reach that goal.
- Add some tips every time the player lost.
- Add another difficulty with the game time only 45 seconds.
These 3 things are what I have in mind when I've uploaded the game. But I decided to go back to the game and start debugging because I was just too lazy in making the game looks better.
Here are the results from debugging:
- I luckily noticed that the game's layout order was messed up. After level 27, instead of going to the victory layout, it went into the assets. I fixed it and now it works properly
- Some people mentions that when they fell out of the game, they just didn't notice that. So I added an extra sound effect when the layout is restarted (the player restarts the level).
And that is the end of the devlog. The game is fully developed and I am really happy with the results. There might be some people who complains a little of several things, but I don't think I want to update it. Exporting to nw.JS and uploading to the itch.io page might take a long time since it has almost 100MB for every platform on Windows and Linux, 32 and 64 bit. I don't know if the game jam allows some sudden changes during the voting session, but if it does, then I can't do anything about it for a week.
This is the last devlog for this game and I am happy to announce that Gems Seeker is now completed.
